Description

2016 Cannondale Slate 105

FOR A RIDICULOUSLY GOOD TIME, START WITH A CLEAN SLATE.
Slate is the bike you never knew you always wanted. It seems like a fever dream. It ain’t no dull gravel grinder, it’s a full-tilt road bike with legit off-road chops. It’s a drop-bar bike with a Lefty front fork. It’s got massive tyres, yet still boasts road bike quickness. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before, and yet somehow, it’s everything you hoped it would be. Float over potholes, boost off of curbs, stick impossible lean angles, rail down trails or just bring a little excitement to the next group ride. On Slate, fun is the only mission.

Slate is:

  • The most absurdly fun road bike ever created.
  • The bike for people who want to ride roads without having to “road-ride”
  • The most all-around capable “road” bike we’ve ever made
  • For Roadies looking for a new thrill. MTB’ers or action-sports enthusiasts looking for looser, more open definition of “road riding”. Highly skilled riders looking for new limits to push. Highly unskilled riders looking to build skill without consequences.

Tech Info:
BIG TYRES ON SMALL WHEELS – 650BX42C
The idea for Slate started with the realisation that 650b road wheels with massive 42c tyres offer the same rollout (outer diameter) as a 700x22c wheel/tyre combo. That means Cannondale could get the unreal cornering grip and float of big tyres, with proper road bike speed and crazy-good handling.

SLATE’S “FULL FUN” GEOMETRY
Since Cannondale didn’t have to compromise the Slate’s geo around big tyres on big wheels, they were free to optimise it to maximise fun in all conditions. Short chainstays keep things lively and agile, while a longer front-centre and slacker head angle provide the stability needed for rough roads and off-road excursions. Rider position fits right between the full aggressiveness of Elite Race and the more upright Endurance.

LEFTY OLIVER
Designed to be ridden all-over, the Oliver is built specifically for Slate. 30mm of travel, with heavily tuned low speed compression damping and a unique COG (Coil over Gas) negative spring to minimise bobbing. PBR on-the-fly lockout and rebound adjustment. Carbon outer structure and OPI forged alloy inner leg. It’s the most capable front suspension the road has ever seen.

SAVE PLUS MICRO-SUSPENSION SYSTEM
The dramatic shaping of the seat stays and chainstays on the Slate provide a great balance of big bump-eating capability and rock solid rigidity. Just what you need when blasting down rocky trails or potholed streets.

DROPPER POST COMPATIBLE
Nothing inspires confidence like a dropper post, and with 27.2mm diameter posts and internal dropper routing, it’s an easy upgrade to make.

SYNTACE 142X12 THRU-AXLE
Thru-axle design boosts stiffness. Threads integrated into replaceable derailleur hanger.

BRAZE-ON DISC CALIPER MOUNT
Super tidy, ultra-light and extremely strong, Cannondale’s patent-pending braze-on mount is designed for the new low-profile flat-mount brakes.

SLATE GEO
The Slate is designed to offer incredibly fun, snappy road-bike handling with real, off-road capability. Rider position is aggressive and performance oriented – equivalent to the HeadsUp Race position. The 650bx42c wheel/tyre combo enable Cannondale to get the serious traction and float of large volume 42c tyres, while keeping the same short chainstay length as a SuperSix EVO, which keeps things agile and quick. To provide stability and confidence when things get rough, the front-centre distance is increased via a longer top tube and slacker head angle. The result? A bike that rails corners like a race bike, tracks effortlessly through chatter and bumps, and provides more smiles per mile than any road bike ever made.

During the assembly process the forks, wheels, seat-post and components are fitted. Gears and brakes are adjusted (disc brakes bled if necessary), wheels are trued, tires pumped up and all nuts and bolts tightened.

Assembly required by you.

Road Bike Assembly.

You will be required to straighten the stem, fit the handle bars, front wheel and pedals.

road-bike-build-process

Safety Notes.

Ensure the stem clamp bolts and handle bar clamp bolts are correctly tightened. An uneven handle bar clamp plate may cause damage to the handle bars.

  • When a bike is carbon or fitted with carbon parts a torque wrench should be used.
  • When tightening the seat post clamp on a carbon bike a torque wrench should be used.

Identify the left and right pedals.

Do not confuse the left and right pedals – they are different.

The right pedal is fitted to the drive side (the side with the chain and gears). Both pedals will be clearly marked which side they are for. They are often stamped l or r at the end of the axle.

Do not force your pedals on! Always finger tighten first. Attempting to fit a pedal to the incorrect crank arm will void your warranty.

Before your first ride your new bike run through the gears to ensure they work correctly before you apply any force to the drive system.

If any miss or over shifting is experienced they will need checking by a qualified person as they may have been knock in transit.

 Warning!

Your bicycle must be properly assembled and checked before riding.

  • High peak cycles accept no responsibility for injury or damage due to faulty assembly.
